I've driven some fieros that have a LOT of air flow coming out of the vents but neither my 85 or 88 are all tha great. The temps are fine, I just can't seem to get the air to come out. I removed the fan motors and cleaned the boxes where they came out then put new fan motors on both cars. This didn't seem to help much. The A/C controlers seem to work OK.

Can anyone please tell me what else to do to get more air out of the vents ?

What's probably happened is the evaporator is clogged. And that's clogged in the sense that it no longer will allow unrestricted airflow though it. The clogging is probably 20 years of dust and grime.

Remember that the evaporator is the heat exchanger that is under the dash that gets cold and the fan blow through. I've never changed one but read that it's a bear to get out on a Fiero. They aren't that cheap either. I had one replaced on another car and the airflow was nearly double after the operation though. It might be the only solution to more wirflow.

Thank You ... do you have any idea about where it is located, Jon ? Do you get to it from inside or outside the car ? Sounds like maybe the dash has to come out ? .....OH NOooooooooo...

The evaporator probably comes out from under the hood. If you look under the hood you can see the coolant lines feeding into and out of the evaporator. The tricky part no doubt is that the evaporator is also wedged into the airbox. In theory it shouldn't be any harder to change than say the hearter core, but like I've read it doesn't want to come out that easy. I've never tried it so I don't know for sure.

By the way taking out the dash is about the easiest thing in the world to do. The Fiero Dash has no wiring in it and is only held in by relatively few screws, proabably less than 10, so don't be afraid of that if you ever need to remove it...

Rich - Thanks..I cleaned it out and replaced the blower fan mototr but it only helped a little bit. I think Jon's on the right track ...

Jon - I made a few calls today and it seems like everyone in town wants like $800 to replace the evaporator and recharge the system. OUCH !!! The dealer told me that the factory evaporator has been discontinued by GM ?!

Any of the local cali guys ever been to Salernos Auto Air in Burbank ? Seemed like a nice guy - I might take a drive up there and let him check things out in a week or 2 ...
