I just wanted to pass along a product I have been using and love. Its a glue called Duramix 40/40, it bonds to everything with no problems what so ever. It used to be you had to buy it in a large tube and a gun was needed to be able to use it but they are now selling smaller tubes.

More info, please. Where do you get it? Who makes it? What have you used it on?

Duramix is now a 3M product and any 3M dealer can order it for you if they don't stock it. The 40/40 is a very good adhesive for composite parts and the 40/58 is more of a filler with a little weaker bond, but sands easier according to my guy that paints my cars. I've used the 40/40 to bond and it's very strong, I think stronger than 3M's regular structural adhesive.

I wasn't aware they had it available in smaller quantities, I've always used the double tubes in the special gun.

John Stricker

Edited to add, the guns are about $100, the adhesive is about $45/tube. (at least around here, over the counter)

Yes is it a bit much but really worth it if your doing anything you do not want to take a risk with using something cheaper. The smaller tube around here is about $15 - $20 if I remember right.

My cousin has a body shop and I just asked him about this stuff the other day. He said its the same stuff car manufacturers use bonding body panels on. Amazing stuff! He also said that there is some other stuff made by the same people for use with plastic and fiberglass type panels. They say the panels (Metal or composite) will rip before the bond seperates. I can't wait to try it!

Does this adhesive remain flexible after it cures? How heat resistant is it?

I have been experimenting with sandwich composite materials made of aluminum and fiberglass cloth.
