Well i am knee deep into building a car with Delawarefiero and we were really not wanting to paint a really good codition maroon GT . I know that if i had anything to do with it, I would nitpick it (the paint job) apart and the painter would try to beat me severly. So i had a revalation. Swap the bodies from the new 88 GT (which is white) to the project car. This would allow the painter to paint an not have to get every nook and cranny white to please me (for some reason i'm an a$$ when it comes to resprays). Anyway i would like some hints and tricks to remove and reinstall body panels and such. I am really conserned with removing the fastback rear clip without removing the quarter windows(if at all possible) . TIA Chris

P.S. pics are good and i like to use the ratings system

If you are that concerned about a respray do a panel off painting of your car. As far as I am concerned with these cars panel off is the only way to go (because it is so easy). As for removing the GT clip without taking the windows out it can be done However flexing the clip as you remone it may crack the windows! I would remove them and the reinstall after you have the final paint done.

Way too much work. You might consider either buying an air brush sprayer to cover the diffrent paint in those little nooks and crannies or pick up a can of high quality touchup spray paint at your local autoparts store.I know they charge extra at the paint shop to spray door jams and the trunk area ($50 or more, per door jam) plus the trunk area and fender edgers = big $$$.I belive you could paint the nooks and cranies prior to haveing the whole car painted, but I have no idea if the paint will wrinkle in those nooks and crannies when the whole car is painted, that has something to do with paint compatability and if there useing asictone based thinner (you might try asking the painter if those areas can be painted befor or after by you).

I removed all my panels except the rear clip and windshield piece. Those were painted on the car.
Luckily I had a painter that appreciated what I wanted as a finished product. None of the parts that were not removed had overspray or missing paint. He even removed the trim piece under the windshield which I was going to ignore and he painted that area perfectly as well.

Ready to drive it to the paint shop.

Hey skitime was removing the quarter windows a pain? From what i have seen of them they look like they are glued in with that black weatherseal tar stuff. I just don't want to break/crack perfectly good quarter windows trying to remove them. Thanks Chris
