Got a question. I removed the console in my daughters' 87 4 cyl coupe with an automatic trans and found what looks like a PCM laying in the hollow space under the computer. It has some logo on the plastic 'RN' and on a silver label with ASLC/2101. I don't see any reference to GM or Delco anywhere, and the chip was manufactured in Singapore. Does anyone know what this is supposed to be? I mean is it supposed to be a 'performance' chip?
thanks!

RN is the manufacturer of the black plastic carrier.

That's an ECM 1227748. The ASLC is the chip in it as follows:

BCC year is 1990

BCC= ASLC2101 Scan id= 0151 Part number= 16142100
Release date= 04/26/89 Engine size= 2.5 Trans Type= Auto trans
ECM/PCM: ECM #01227748
Used in cars: Pontiac Oldsmobile Buick
Possibly used in:
GRAND AM LE GRAND AM SE CUTLASS CALAIS S
CALAIS INTERNATIONAL CUTLASS CALAIS CUTLASS CALAIS SL
SKYLARK CUSTOM 4 DR SKYLARK LUXURY 4 DR SKYLARK CUSTOM 2 DR
SKYLARK GRAND SPORT SKYLARK

Options:
With L68 2.5L GAS 4 CYL TBI SHORTER LENGTH
With MD9 AUTO 3 SPD THM 125 CLUTCH
With NA5 FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS

It's a stock 90 2.5L chip. Probably Intel, the blank fabbed in Singapore. Programmed in the US.

WOAH! Thanks for the wealth of info! I wonder if this is any use to me? Some of the later (and last) tech fours had higher HP outputs...I wonder if the chip had anything to do with that (I doubt it) I always thought it had to do with intakes..

+ to you!

I seriously doubt it. The HP is in the engine mechancials and then the chip is tuned to that. You can get more HP out of a turbo engine with a chip since there is so much excess boost, but not much on NA engines. Even the SC engines are pulley limited rather than chip limited.

You have a nice spare 7748 ECM.
