I've been crawling under my car trying to find the darn knock sensor on my 94 tdc and can't see it? It should be on the back side of the motor right?

I have 2 pictures of my motor here. Unfortunatly they don't help me because I had to shrink them to post them on pennock's. If someone could paint an arrow on one of the pictures it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

I couldn't see it in the pic, and from where he circled, I do not think that is exactly it, but it is right near there.

Does your alternator have the alternator cooling duct on it? If not, you need one. If so, it is right behind that. You will need to remove the duct in order to see it. If not, get one, well it is below the rear exahust manifold a couple of inches.

The knock sensor is pretty identiable, it should eb a brash colored cylinder, about 1/2" tall, with a hex head and an electrical plug on top of it. It screws in and out. The electrical plug is not standard and be careful not to break it. It is shaped like an oval. To remove it, push the two wide ends of the oval together, forcing it to look like a circle. Then gently rock it back and forth and pull it. To install it, just push it on.

Hope this helps!

It should be somewhere where it can read the crank. It has to be low on the block somewhere.

I feel so stupid. It was exactly where Ltlfrari said it was and Erik but I couldn't see it because it already had a connector on it. I pulled the wire that was on it and it wasn't connected to anything. It was also a different color than the one on my new wiring harness.

Anyways, Thanks guys!

I'm Aaron btw, but by coincedence my roomate's name is Erik...lol. I'm glad you found it. But if it wasn't connected that is bad. The knock sensor is CRITICAL on the 3.4L. With mine bad, the car retarded ignition timing as much as it had the power to do. Thankefully it wasn't knocking audibly, but I did get beat by a carbed 2.8L Firebird. Automatic too. lol. Put the new knock sensor on, and I was back to beating LT1s

Hey Aaron, Levi

Thanks for the tip. I didn't drive the car without the knock sensor, but today I did get the car on the road for the first time. After spending a couple hours bleeding the cooling system and instaling the dog bone I was able to take her out. The car feels better than I expected.
