I just bought some GT rims. They are 15x6 in fromt and 15x7 in the rear. What are the recommended tire sizes for these? I assume the rear tires are a different size than the front. I'd like to go as wide as I can in width and probably a 215 for the height.

215 for the height, wow that's gonna be one tower of a tire . I think you meant it the other way around. Stock fiero size is 215/60/15, 225 is optimum as far as tires fitting 7" wide rims. You could possibly pull off a 235, but if I were you i'd just stick to 215/225.

i'm not really sure about the front tire sizes, i'd go with 205/60/15 if I were you (taking a shot in the dark here).

This should help. We ran 225 50 15 on the rear of our stock rims, I know people have gone wider on a 7 inch rim. Use this web site for a calculator.

I'm confused... are 215/50/15 or 215/60/15 stock? I could've sworn it was 60

Stock tires sizes on the 15" GT rims is 205/60R15 on front, and 215/60R15 on the rear. This goes for both the 86-87's, and the 88's.

I agree!

What car are you putting them on? I put a set on my '85GT and used 195/60-15 front and 225/50-15 rear. They match the stock tire OD and I really like the look. I used Yokohama ES100 tires. (not good if winter is an issue)

Oops. Yes, I had it backwards.... 215 wide, not high..... yeah, that's what I meant! The link posted brought up another question. I'm upgrading from 14 inch rims with 215 60 14s on them. How do I recalibrate the speedometer? Or do I? Will I have to just get a 120 MPH speedo from a GT to correct this? I have an '86 V6SE with an 85 MPH speedo. Well, at any rate, I will go with the stock sizes you guys specified. Thanks for the info.

You're gonna love those ES100 225/50/15s. I wore through mine in like 3000 miles. I think they were like %50 tread when I got them with my rims

did you get yours new? if so how much and where

Just browsing through - I happen to have a set of Yokohama ES100's on my rear tires too - 225 50 ZR16 (on aftermarket 16" rims). They stick great and they cost me 100 bucks apiece at the local tire store.

I bought mine new, about $100/tire at Discount Tire. I really like them. I have them on both my Fieros. 15s on the '85 and 17s on the '88. They are great tires but if you thrash them hard they won't last long. A friend of mine bought a set and put on his RX-7 after seeing mine. He burnt the rears off in one summer but he happily bought two more to replace them.

Also changing to the 120 speedo does not recalibrate for the change in tire OD. That requires a gearing change at the sending unit.

Stock sizes for what though? The stock 14" tires are smaller in OD than the stock 15" tires. The tire sizes I suggested match the stock 14" OD.
