Painless has those 50 amp fuse systems... A good idea to replace our fusible links?

Personally I wouldn't. You might want to check out the Wire Service article in The Ogre's Cave--it has a section which talks about fuseable links & why they're used in some circuits.

Fuse links are way more dependable than fuses. 50 amps is also far under rated for most of the circuits on the car.

Bad idea.

50 amps would likely be too big for some things and definitely not big enough for others. The alternator link/fuse is typically rated 100 amps or more depending on the alternator and vehicle options.

Since this keeps coming up, I added some more notes to the wire service article in my cave.
