Rodney sells roller bearings that add additional support to the axles at the transmission. Anyone ever use them or have an opinion as to whether they would give more longevity to a new Getrag behind a 3.4L DOHC?

They help support and stabilize the axles, they aren't supported internally. This definitely will help with the tranny longevity. I have them on my tranny. Make sure you use plenty of sealer around them before you press them in, and make sure they are pressed all the way in till the shoulder makes contact with the tranny housing.

I can't vouch for longevity, I just installed them on my '85GT automatic last spring. I did it as a precaution while replacing the CV axles. I will agree with avengador1, seal them good before driving them in. I used only the loctite and one didn't seal very well. I fixed it easily but was worried for a while.

The axles ARE supported, but they're supported on the thrust washers inside the diff carrier. They don't have their own bearings.

I've been running a support bearing on the left axle and none on the right. The surface on the left CV joint where the bearing was riding has significant pitting and surface damage. I'll post pics when I find a camera that can take close-ups...

Turn the key and feel the engine shake the whole car with its lope; Plant the gas pedal and feel in your chest neither a shriek nor a wail but a bellowing roar; Lift and be pushed into the harness by compression braking that only comes from the biggest cylinders while listening to music of pops and gurgles. Know that you are driving an American V8. There are finer engines made, but none of them are this cool.

Luck, Fate and Destiny are words used by those who lack the courage to define their own future
