My '87 se V6 needs a new fuel pump (again). This time I'll do the whole deal- guage sending unit, pump, pulsator.
Is there something better than OE?
This is NOT a fun job, and I dont want to do it again anytime soon.
Any suggestions?i

OEM !!

if it lasts another 15+ years isnt that good enough for ya?

i have a 255 walbro in my GTP but only because it flows more and is 1/3 the price of a new GM, but if it onlt lasts 1/3 as long as a OEM, im still happy

do you have any reason for one that flows more?

You might want to consider one that flows more just in case you ever decide to install a larger engine that requires it.

Installing a high volume pump in a system that doesn't require it just generates more back-pressure making the pump work harder, meaning it will shorten the life of it.

Question. Where can I order a 255lph fuel pump for my 87' GT? I need it for the larger engine and the performance stuff I'll be adding to it shortly (can you say nitrous? haha).

I figure someone has part #'s if at all possible I'm not one to buy from The Fiero Store unless I have to.

255 Lph is good for 500 hp. That's one big pump.

Please don't quote me on this; I'm just repeating what I believe I heard somewhere on this forum. I have not personally done this, but if you’re really interested, you might want to check out a fuel pump from a turbo Trans-Am. I believe they made them in 89. The TTA's fuel pump is supposed to be a direct replacement.

Like I said, I have never done this or verified it, but just passing along a lead that might be worth checking out.

Good Luck

Thanks, Rich. My 2.8 is nearly stock, and will likely stay that way for a long while. I just recently (5000 miles ago) did a top end job, and polished and gasket matched the ports, ground out the stock exhaust mainifolds. I replaced the fuel pump (only) about 3 years and 50,000 miles ago with Genuine GM. I'll probably stick with that.
It will be nice to have a (semi) reliable gas guage after all these years!
