Isn't the exhaust on the wrong side?? I may have to cut it off and rework the whole exhaust, not mention getting the original pipe end on it.

You can tell from the "soot" on the left hand side of the bumper where the original tail pipe was installed. There's plenty of pictures in this forum and elsewhere showing what the factory exhaust system looks like (with the engine/tranny cradle both in and out of the car).

Hi PaL, welcome from alt.autos.fiero!

I see now what you were saying about the exhaust. I would recommend that you replace the exhaust with a stock configuration as I don't see any way of using your newly purchased cables with the exhaust pipe routed that way.

Here's a picture of my '88 6-cyl exhaust, it's somewhat different than your earlier 4 cyl exhaust but the general layout is the same:

Here's another thread that discusses exhaust support and design issues:

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/045107.html

Note that the '84-87 exhausts interchange from the downpipe back, and the '88s are unique and won't interchange with the earlier years. Also, you can swap a dual exhaust from the V6 onto a 4-cyl car really easily. In all years the V6 was only a dual, and the L4 was only a single exhaust.

In your case I would recommend getting a used but good condition exhaust system with all the springs, spring brackets, and hangars. You can bolt the whole exhaust on without removing anything significant.
