my car always stated fine, today, I went to start, and I could not hear the fuel pump. The engine cranks over, but no fuel. The fuse was blown, so I replaced it, and tried to start again. It immediately blew. What can I do? I need it running tomorrow night!

Sounds like your pump has a short. If you have voltage at the pump, you will need a new fuel pump.

On my 85 coupe the 3 wires that run to the fuel pump had no insulation on them and they started randomly shorting. It was the section of wire that runs behind the heat shield. Was a pain to find because the part that was exposed looked fine. Good luck

Whats already been said, first check the wiring. If it looks ok, needs a new pump.

No no no no... Unplug the oil sending unit. Then see if it still blows the fuse. These commonly short out inside, causing the FP fuse to blow. Dont make the same mistake I did, and change the pump for no reason.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't believe so. The fuel pump circuit is actually closed by a relay and it is the relay that is tied in line with the fuse. If the coil in the relay starts to short out and decrease resistance then the fuse blows. It's been a while but I do recall the clicking sound after the pumps initial priming coinciding with the relay shutting off until you actually start the car.
There maybe a short in one of the wires to the relay to ground as well.

Both the relay and the pump are powered off the same fuse. The power also goes through the oil pressure sender switch in parallel to the relay contacts. If the sender shorts to ground it will blow the fuse.

Many moons ago, after I had my first engine swap, the wire harness was resting on a heat shield and after a while rubbed through a wire and it shorted the fuel pump circuit. It was intermittant to boot. Bob at Twin Lakes discovered it after the fuse wouldn't last 5 miles. I was at the Dells at the time. He trailered the car back to his shop.

This was after I had replaced the fuel pump twice, and broke down twice once in the middle of nowhere PA and once outside of Rockford, IL. The fix was to rewrap the wire and harness and reroute the harness. The wire harness was the big one that goes through the firewall in back of the driver's seat.

You definitely have a short somewhere in the wiring system in the fuel pump circuit. Trying to locate it may be a PITA!
