Hi Folks!! Hope to be online fulltime soon, but until then.. I had my aircon recharged couple of weeks ago, and, related or not, I donīt know, but I am having a lot of problems just lately.First, the aircon compressor keeps jamming up, the temperature goes up to about 220 degrees, the tickover rises as the temperature goes up, although it starts at 1000rpm at cold. Codes posted are 22,24,32,34,44, and now ,after clearing them all,I am getting 24 and 35.I know what they all mean, but am wondering if all the problems stem from the IAC.It would seem that it is inoperative, indicated by the fact that the tickover is ok when cold, but as the temp goes up, and less air is needed, I guess it is still wide open, making the tickover go up..any ideas? I also am wondering why the compressor jams...Buddycraigg gave me some tips last time I posted this problem, and the answers to the questions are:yes, the pulley turns freely when the belt is off, and the centre bit goes round too.I think they did something wrong when they recharged it, because he could only get the hose to connect to the high side, and not the low.I also donīt think he used the oil seperater, and he certainly didnīt put in any oil.. Any opinions or help will be much appreciated..and can you give me an idea of the cost of new iac, and map sensor? thanks guys and gals!! fierofetish PS, not being online at home, I will not be able to reply to any postings until I am in town again...but please post anyway!! fierofetish

I am still trying to sort this problem!!No replies yet... My view is that the posting of code 24(speed sensor) and code 35(AIC9) are related. As the car warms up, so the rpm increases to about 2500, triggering the speed sensor,I have checked for vacuum leaks, but canīt find any. When I lift the egr diaphram, the engine stalls, so that seems to rule out the EGR.I think the AIC stepping motor is not working, and that is causing the rpms to rise.Even with these problems, the car still performs perfectly, and the cooling fan keeps the temperature within limits. But, I donīt want to damage the engine, so am not driving it until it is fixed.Does anybody have a used IAC unit that works? I can pay by paypal... a new unit from the UK is over $120 with postage, a lot to spend if the IAC is not the problem!! thanks for your interest fierofetish

Hi Nick, I hope I can give some help. First of all I just ordered a new Map sensor that hopefully gets my engine running. It is 69 euro's without tax.
you can check the IAC by connecting the A+B connectors on the aldl connector and put the ignition in run. (diagnostic mode). The Iac should start calibrating. You can also test it when it is out of the throttlebody, if it works it will shoot pintle+spring out of your reach. you can just screw it back. Good luck.
Hi Fie Ro!! Well yesterday I took the IAC from the v6 I sold a while back, and put it in my car...no difference!! I took out the thermostat, and the temp still went up until the fan clicked in..it doesnīt overheat or lose coolant. So next I took the MAP from my 88L4, and that made no difference either!! I then put the aldl in field mode, and the revs went back down to 1000, and the overheating stopped...Ummm..er.....I have checked the connectors to the ECM, and they seem ok...the car performs exactly as normal, but tickover is still around 1500, and the temp goes up..this all came about when my aircon pump started to jam up, but this may well be a red herring. When people talk about the EGR going bad, do they mean the vacuum line from the controller, or the tube from the EGR to the inlet manifold? When I lift the diaphragm with the engine running, it stumbles and then stops, which seems to indicate the system is working ok.. The waterpump belt is tight, and the pump is shifting water around the system.Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and shall think about further investigation. I would say that all the vacuum operated components such as brake booster and cruise control are getting full vacuum and working ok...and so the Fiero confounds yet another owner!! fierofetish

Hi buddycraigg!! Sorry!!!Tickover is another word for idle, in the English idiom!! So, I took the connector off the AIC,and connected it to the other IAC, and the pintle didnīt shoot out...but I could feel the housing of the IAC vibrating, and it seemed to be pushing the pintle out, but without success...so I swapped them over, and had the same result!!! but they both work in the other car!!! Maybe the wiring is bad, or the ecm on the way out...Strange symptom is this, tho....when I drive the car for 20 minutes, the revs go up to 2000 on idle.If I then turn the ignition off for 1 minute, and then start the car again, it idles at a perfect 1000rpm, until I drive it again...then it goes up to 1500rpm.I have also noticed that when I leave the car idling, the revs drop in increments of 50 rpm until it levels out at about 1200 rpm.Oh, by the way. the only codes being posted are 24 and 35.Also, if I put the aldl in field mode, it ticks over perfectly at 1000 rpm. I have also checked the check engine light in this mode, and it flashes consistently at about 1 flash per second. Got me beat so far!! fierofetish
