I'm in the middle of swapping my auto transmission, for a 5 getrac speed, and I already got what I think is necessary ( 5speed transmission, cables with shifter assembly, pedals, clutch lines, axels, trans mounts, its that all?), however I read once somewhere, that there is a safety switch that I need, but I don't know where this is???
Where is it? What does it looks like?
Anyone that can direct me in the right direction, would be very appreciated!
Thanks!

That is kind of a confusing question. Your automatic transmission had a position switch bolted to where the linkage enters the transmission at the top by the cable. It has 6 wires, two are thick, they are purple and yellow. That was your neutral/park safety switch. Now that you have a manual, that same switch is now located at the clutch pedal. Assuming that you've kept the automatic wiring for the interior harness, you would have to take the thick yellow wire that comes out of the ignition switch on the steering colum, cut it and splice the clutch switch into that wire. You might need to extend the wire alittle. Then you just cut the thick yellow and purple wires of the automatic's neutral safety switch and splice them togather. Many people would rather forego splicing there clutch switch in, since its not something every car made has, and (In my experience) often fails anyway.
In a related subject, the position switch on the automatic also has a green and a blue wire on it. cut them and splice in a connector that will mate to your reverse swich on the Getrag, otherwise, you won't have any reverse lights... the other two wires, I believe they are orange and black, cut them and tape them off, they are no longer necessary since you dont have a "drive" position or even some sort of switch on the manual.
edit: Now If you happen to have changed the automatic ENGINE harness to a manual one, you can skip the splicing of the wires that used to go to the automatic's positon switch, since its already done for you.

That project is on the shelf waiting for the finish of the Indy Quad 4. Then I can invest alittle time and $$$ into the 3.4 DOHC SC project. I had a change of heart on the computer to use. 1227730 is much better suited to the "Fiero" application then the 1227727. Lets just say that with the 1227730, you can simply get one of the computer connectors (the yellow one) and just move around some of the wires to it and rearrange some others in the stock 2.8 computer plugs, then just plug the 1227730 in, That takes care of most the wiring. Then just wire in a DIS package into the wires that used to be for the distributor. Add a couple wires for the EGR. Done. With the 1227727 you have to splice in every computer wire, or make a harness from scratch. I think the 1227730 is a life saver.
Top one is the 1227730 and the bottom one is a stock 2.8 Fiero computer. See what I mean?

Sorry that my reply took so long, but we got hit by the Hurricane, and things have changed a little ever since...
Any way the Fiero still ok; and so the hunting for the best answer to my first question on this thread still going!
I was talking to another fellow from the 60degrees forum and he is turbo charging his car. I mention to him that I was using the 1227727 computer and he said that he had tried it before too, and wasn’t the best since he had to rewrite most of it programming in it.
What do you think? It’s a strait shoot besides the EGR, and the manual transmission speedometer, or is it more than that to it??
Take care,

Just wanted to chime in here - my clutch-mounted neutral safety switch failed sometime ago and is simply bypassed at the moment. I probably intended to replace the switch and fix it right, but really never thought of it since. If you have the habit of either not leaving it in gear when you park it or putting the clutch in when you start it, you won't notice not having it. On the other hand, you will be able to start your car with the clutch engaged whether you are behind the wheel or not. Even if you are behind the wheel, the car will likely lurch into the bumper of the vehicle in front of you before you can react.
If you bypass this switch, please be careful!
