The fiber washer on my coolant recovery bottle cap was disintegrating, so I removed it so it wouldn't crumble and fall into the bottle. How vital is the washer to the operation of the system?

It's not very important - you'll notice the top of the cap is open to the air.

Rodney's are only $2 and he was nice enough to have the replacements made. The old one comes right out. He sell lots of other 'good things for your Fiero' too. I just got and installed an 88 headlight rebuild kit, 3 cap gaskets and a always on power window wire set. All very nice. He also said he'd look into making that gasket under your V6 air cleaner that's probalbly no longer there or won't be if you R & R it.

Rodney is great and all but $2 plus $3 shipping = $5. Napa $3.69 usually in stock on the rack (common GM part) for the whole cap not just the gasket. Here's the part number...... Item#: BK 7031456

Price: $ 3.69

When you need a 4 spd slave bracket or a select arm rebuild kit for your 85-86 V6, get it from NAPA too.

Huh??

I've purchased a headlight rebuilt kit and door hinge pins from Rodney before , great product and service. Although, to me it seems ill advised to favor spending more for something b/c of incurred shipping costs for something less, however.... Fierobruiser is advising you to spend more and get less, why? I have no idea!

I'm sure Rodney would agree to this, unless of course you plan on getting other items from Rodney at the same time. That way you'd get more value from the savings gained from a bundled shipment.

Of course you save on shipping if you buy more. What I was saying is to spend the extra, in this case $1.08 ($3,69 +$.23 for 6% PA tax, in my case, = $3.92) and support a Fiero business that develops and supplies products that GM no longer does (such as the aforementioned bracket or repair kit) or in some cases never did. NAPA doesn't give a big, hairy rat's patoot about your Fiero. Support Rodney and the Fiero Store and other vendors that specialize in your car whenever possible. If you don't, then don't complain when they're gone and no one has parts anymore for your cars.

HUH? You want people to spend extra on their Fiero parts? LOL. Why don't we just Paypal them a donation from time to time with the money we save on some parts we buy at the local evil parts suppliers?

This thread is about a coolant cap, not brackets and repair kits, ok? Besides, nobody is disagreeing with you about the value of Rodney as a Fiero parts merchant so get off your soap box. You really think Rodney gives a big, hairy rat's patoot about the profits he makes on a $2 item? huh? He offers it as an add on to your already existing shopping list on his website. Furthermore....stay focused here....that coolant cap is not Fiero specific, it's a common generic GM part, not on the endangered species list, in fact it's not even made by GM. Perhaps now your advise is to spend more at a GM dealership rather than get it at the evil Napa or Carquest or whatever. Would you also buy all your other non-Fiero specific generic parts such as spark plugs and oil at mail away Fiero merchants if they offered it? I didn't think so. Rodney is great, I am a loyal customer of his but I can't understand why you would steer away someone from a more practical value conscience choice. You make it sound as if its unethical or immoral or something to get it somewhere else regardless of cost.
