I just put a remanufactured AC compressor on my stock 2.8L 86 Fiero. I go to turn it on and for some reason the compressor wont cycle. Additionally, when I plug the cable into the Cycle actuator on the accumulator in it causes the car to run real rough and backfire constantly. I checked the wires that go to the actuator for power and it tested good. As for the "blade" plug on the top of the AC compressor the wires that run to it had no power. Im stumped at this point and I'm looking for a little assitance from people who have had the problem and thoes who have any idea. I appreciate any assitance.

I haven't heard too many good things to say on remanufactured A/C compressors. I went through two in three years and now have a used one in my 88. Next time it is a new one. ($$ I know)

I don't know what you particular problem is, but check to see if when the actuator is plugged in, how much current it is drawing. Is it sucking so much juice that there isn't enough current to run the other electronics like plugs, injectors etc?

I don't have a backfire answer but do possibly have an AC one.

Is there freon in the system yet? If not the preasure cycle switch will be open. You said you plugged the cable into the switch, what do you mean by that? You likely will need to jumper the cycle switch to get it to pull the freon in. This is done with a small jumper wire with the switch unplugged. You should not have power to the green wire on the compressor till the switch is bypassed.

Thats the one thing that did go right, I never had a problem pulling the 134a in at all, it sucked it in like a starving kid at a buffet. What I mean by plugging the wire into the switch is that I plug the cable that has a light blue and light green wire into the pressure cycling switch that is located on the right side of the accumulator towards the rear.

On another note, can someone tell me which fusible link controls the AC compressor? Hopefully that is the cause of all this grief. Additionally, in my Haynes manual I have a wiring diagram that shows and A/C Power Relay and an A/C Comp Control Relay, does anoyone know where thoes are? If it is the kind of relay that I think it is it may be the cause of my problems.

Sounds like to me that the compressor is trying to lock up and the alt is straining which can give probs to the fuel and exhaust. Notice, when you turn on the A/C if the idle goes way down. Good luck.....hope it is a bad relay.

Actually on the most part the engine tends to idle somewhere between 1000 to 1500. This simple compressor fix is turing into quite a nightmare.
