OK, I know that this should be easy to find, but I can't. I'm trying to find the GM paint code for my black '86 SE. I followed the information in the Haynes manual that says on page 6 that the body number PLATE is "located in the front compartment on the left inner wheel housing, just behind the left headlight". The sketch in the manual appears to show an actual metal plate that is riveted to the inside of the wheel well. I checked that location and there is no plate, just a 3"x4" white sticker whose numbers don't even come close to following the numbers or the pattern shown in the Haynes. So, WTF? Anybody have any idea where my body number plate is or what it is that I'm looking at? Or better yet, what's the GM paint code for a 1886 black Fiero SE? Thank to all.

Mike

The WA-XXXX numer isn't actually the paint code.......it's one of the identifiers.

What you are looking for is one of those sets of numbers/letter, and I believe one of them should be:

41U

That should be the paint code for a black Fiero, if my memory is correct. The WA number helps to identify the exact color, as there are variations in some codes. I once painted a light blue mid-80's Cavalier with paint code 28, and there were 7 different WA numbers for code 28.

You walk in the WA number and you will get the right paint. Walk in with the RPO code and you might not. There could be several Code XX paints. There is only one WA.

Ask me how I know. Well, I will tell you. There are 4 different Code 15 silvers for Buick but only one WA8573.....
