You should never use teflon tape on oil fitting or components. It can get into the oil system and clog the filter or pump. Use liquid sealant not tape.

Liquid sealant can be found at any auto parts store, ask specificaly for thread sealant. Teflon tape will not allow the sender to ground to the block, many RTV sealants wont either.

I'll have to disagree on that; I use teflon tape on my coolant sensors & I have no problem getting a ground. The trick I'm using is I wrap it tight & don't use too much.

Most, if not all, replacement oil sensors I've seen have a sealant already applied at the factory.

I see frequently on here the comment that teflon tape on the threads of a sensor will prevent it from making a good ground connection,i have no idea where this idea came from but is completely incorrect. If you tighten the fitting to even 1/2 the correct torque value the fitting WILL contact the threads you are screwing into.If you dont believe it,break out your DVM and give it a try,if you dont have a dvm use a test light and you will see it is well grounded. When the test light lights the ground of that sensor will be carrying more current than most senders ever do.Sort of an automotive urban legend!!! my $.02 Don
