I found a fiero with a trans still in it; it's an 84, I have the vin# and I was wondering how I can tell if it's a 4:10 or 3:32 economy transmission. Can I tell from the vin# or will I have to try and find a # on the trans?
Thanks.

Since it is still in the car look at the RPOs on the front fender under the hood (all those 3 digit codes). M19 indicates a 4.10 ratio trans, but also be aware that as with any 20 year old vehicle, parts (including the transmission) may have been swapped.

Negative, the tranny can not be determined form the vin.
There are 3 digit RPO codes on the left front fender under the hood.
They have nothing to do with the vin, just certain characteristics of the car itself.
Check those out, and see what you can find.

The sticker is inside the front trunk on the drivers side fender well. Lots of build codes, M19
= 4:10 and MY8 = 3:32. Sheer numbers say the odds are that it is a 4:10

Thanks guys, I'll take a look.
Any idea on how much they're worth, 4:10 vs. 3:32?
I would tend to think that a 3:32 is worth something since it was made only one year, (wasn't the 4:10 also one year?); I'd also assume the 3:32 would be nice fo some top speed on a high horsepower engine. I remeber reading somewhere that the 3:32 can due close to 200mph with the right engine toped out, whereas the getrag is limited to 163mph?

a few other ways to help is that the 4.10 was in the "SE" and the 3.32 was in the Base coupe, the Base coupe also had black trunk carpet, where as the SE had standard grey trunk carpet, the SE also had Striped seats, where as the Coupe had solid color seats

there were suposidly only 8,000 3.32's made so odds are it's a 4.10

Better on gas, not performance... but yeah..

How about if the tranny is out of the car? They're the exact same case, aren't they?...
