C500 Connector on an 88...Pinout does not show an A1 wire, it says N/A....

A1 - Dark Green - I believe it is for the A/C....? If so, where on the A/C?

A2 - Light Green - Ground?

C2 - Green/Yellow - RockCrawl says this should go to temp sender...Pinout says instrument gauge...Is this the feed from the temp sendor through C500 to the instrument gauge?

Can anyone verify these?

C2 - yes connect to the temp sender, but right now I am not sure if this is for the guage or the dummy light (don't have my FSM near me). I 'think' D3 also connects up to one of the temp senders as well.
A2 - ground
A1 - according to my 88 FSM, A1 of the C500 is not used - do you have a wire in the plug?

...here is a scan of the 88 C500 page from the FSM:

How are you doing, I want a weekly update on how you are doing on your car or do I have to come down and give you another ride. For 85 they used A1 for the trunk release (black with a white stripe, I belive).

Looking through the diagrams in the 88 FSM:

A/C does not show it connected to the C500 anyplace - however (books been wrong before), you did say it was a DRK/GRN wire, there is a wire of this color that connects to the A/C compressor clutch. So I would go with that assuming you don't already have a wire hooked up to there. Guess you didn't mark it when you removed it from the other motor

C500/D3 is for the temp light - connects to the temp sensor in the 4.9 head
C500/C2 is for the temp guage - connects to the sensor in the thermostat housing (the green wire) - you did change this sensor out?

Jack,

Thanks for the "kick in the pants" that I frequently need...the engine is out again for the exhaust fabrication (now complete, and looks quite nice, if I do say so myself), the oil cooler (now done, but I am unsure of the hose placement), A/C (modded the Fiero compressor to fit and need to get hoses lenghthened, tomorrow hopefully), engine torque strap (done now)...

Tomorrow I plan on finalizing the fuel routing and put the motor back in for the LAST time....hopefully all works out and then I can put the wheels back on for the first time on couple of years....

Next up are the hood lifts and fuel routing, air intake (looks like the stock one will not work the way I wanted) and the WIRING!!!!! I hope to have the thing running for the Fiero show this weekend.....wish me luck....

I went back and looked at the carnage created when I cut away my C500....It looks like A1- Dark Green - went to the ALDL connector, third pin...I will see if I can figure out what this is...

My wiring is taking shape....I will take a look again tongiht and post later....I still believe that it went to the ALDL, though. I do not know what it is for though.

OK.....the BIG (and last thing to figure out) question is:

A2 - Ground distribution - Is this to go to ground or does it provide ground to something in the engine bay? What should happen to this wire?

I'm not sure what year you're working with, but as someone else mentioned, A1 does go to the deck release solenoid in '85. Ed's harness doesn't include that wire and we had to add it to get our deck release to work.

I have a little more info on the green A1 wire....it connects to the ALDL connector as I mentioned before...it apparently is used to engage the AC clutch manually from the ALDL connector....I also have one for the fuel pump....and a few others that I am working on identifying....it is not necessary other than that.....I am running mine without it being hooked up.
