Got a car, got no spark. I replaced the pick up coil, ign module, cap/rotor/coil. the car doesn't spark. For the heck of it I swapped computers, no spark.. How can I test the pickup or the module to see if either of the two are the culprit?

Module: Take it to an auto parts store. Have them run the test twice to make sure it passes when hot.

Pick up coil: Hook a digital volt meter (set to 5 V AC) to the two leads. Make sure the wires are clear of rotating and moving parts and crank the engine over. You should get about 2 V across the leads. If you get nothing, then the pick up coil is bad.

Do you have your ground wire on your battery connected? I made that mistake recently. Amazingly, the car would crank with just a 12 guage wire grounding the whole car but it wouldn't spark much at all.

Also, a quick test of the pickup coil and ignition module is to just look at the tach while it is cranking. If the tach moves then both are working. If not, then at least one is bad.

Ahhh.. thanks for the Tach trick. I tried cranking and the tach moves from its resting position, to zero, and stays there, til I turn the key off, where it moves up a bit once again. Off to get my modules tested..
