I need to know how to bypass the clutch pedal switch to test weather i need a clutch pedal switch or a starter. Usually, more increasing lately i go to start the car and it will just click, click, let out clutch pedal, push in again and usually it would start. At Best Buy i came out, go to start it up and nothing but clicking. tapped on the starter, check the clutch pedal and nothing still for like 10 minutes. Finally i got ahold of a friend and we push started it. anyhoo i want to try bypassing the switch and see how that goes for now

The large gauge purple and yellow wires by the clutch pedel. Just connect them, either with a paper clip, or permantly, and the switch is bypassed.

You can find a think peice of wire and put it between the two terminals on the clutch pedal after you unplug it. I don't know if there's a relay or the entire starter amperage is drawn through there, but I had it set up this way on mine for a while...

If it's actually clicking coming from the starter, then the clutch switch *should* be OK. (power to the solenoid is going through the switch...) But anyway, just look at your clutch pedal, there will be the clutch switch, possibly another if you have cruise. The starter one will be the one with heavier wire. Just disconnect the switch, and fit a heavy jumper wire into the plug terminals. A piece of household solid copper wire would work, flattened on both ends.. Just don't short it to any grounds. Careful not to have it in gear, bad things happen that way... Like cars driving themselves into Jeeps.... Doh! Edit: Wow, everyone wanted to answer this one I guess, all at the same time!

Riceburner98 is right. If you are getting the solenoid to click then the switch is fine.

Check cables: Positive and negative.

battery(load test): any local parts store worth its salt should be able to test this in a few minutes.

solenoid or starter: Our starters/solenoid are prone to failure because they are subject to high heat from the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. If it turns out that you only need the solenoid then just use a standard GM solenoid. If you ask for one for a Fiero then it will cost about $45 versus $65 for a starter with solenoid.

I am sure that most of you have realized that Fiero can be an expensive word in the parts store. Don't use it unless you have to.

Good answer, you'll have to look for your problem somewhere else.

Is the car warm when this happens? If yes, you will need a new starter. This happened to me.

When the engine was cold, car would start just fine. When engine was warm, car would not start. I had to wait for the engine to cool before it would start. Replaced the starter and everything was fine.

The soliniod get hot and after aperiod of time, the heat effects its operation. I have seen in magazines whete people have gotten starters with seperate solinoids and have remote located the solinoid, away from engine (exhaust) heat.
