Well yesterday I noticed quite a bit of a puddle under the fiero and its probably leaking from a seal around the harmonic dampener. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about probably takeing the wheel off and one of the pannels to get to it easier. Any really special tools needed?
Thanks

If it is the front seal you will need a puller to take the balancer off. I use a longer bolt same size as the balancer bolt to install (M12x1.5...I think). You can use a large socket to install the new seal. I would check to make sure it is not the oil pan gasket that is leaking before you take the balancer off. You should be able to get it off by taking the wheel, and inner liner off. The balancer is keyed to the crankshaft. I use a little RTV on the key when I reinstall..........Paul

I had a bad oil leak in that area that drove me nuts. There was oil on the balancer and all over the front end of the engine but I couldn't actually catch it leaking from the seal. I pulled the balancer anyway...an impact wrench pays big dividends here...replaced the seal, sleeved the balancer and installed a new waterpump all at the same time. Still leaked oil. I spent some time cleaning the whole front of the engine and finally found the leak was in the block that the oil pressure sender screws into. The oil pipe from the filter boss is brazed into that block and it was leaking at the joint. It couldn't be seen except from right directly below the oil pressure sender. You might want to check that out before doing a lot of other stuff.

do check above for leaks and the pan before you pull it. If you have to pull the harmonic balancer, inspect it carefully. If the rubber looks like it's bulging more on one side or if it looks torn, replace the balancer. They can shift and can drive you nuts when timming your engine if you don't notice it. And like he said, replace the water pump whle you're at they're cheep. And if you do need to replace it be sure to check the new TDC mark with number 1 cylinder at TDC. There are alot of mis marked units out there and since your old one may have slipped some you can't use it to compare.
The timing cover seal is fairly easy to replace, but you do absolutely have to use a balancer puller to remove the balancer from the crank. The timing cover seal doesn't see any pressure at all, so it's unusual for one to do more than seep a trace amount of oil. The purpose of the timing seal is more to keep dirt out of the engine than oil in.

Yea I havent had to much time lately to look at it but I will keep all this in mind. Lately it hasnt been leaking much but still needs to be fixed. I have also had a probably lately with loss of power in the higher rpms but I dont know if these two are realated. Im overdue for a tune up. I dont know if these problems are related or just coninsidence. The oil pressure is still normal because that was the first thing I thuoght after reading a previous post. Ill get it apart in the comming week luckally I dont need to depend too much on it.
