headlight motor runs for 10 seconds by 85cremepuff

on my 1987 gt my left headlight motor will run for about 10 seconds before shutting off, headlight works and goes up and down, i have the motor in peases on my desk, the gear looks good and so does the motor brushes, what can i do to fix this?

hi can you be more specific, it runs only 10 secs and goes compltely down amd up or only runs but does not complete the cycle, if so check the little brushes......folow this post, probably the definative post..........buddys post.....................

but to be honest i know squat about the 87 / 88 head light systems.
so i'm not going to be much help here.

Sounds like the pucks in the motor have disintegrated. They'll give enough 'traction' to drag it up and down, but then they keep spinning until the controller shuts it down.

Pull out the motor, take it apart - replace the pucks. Fiero Store has 'em, or if you're really on a budget (too cheap? heh), take a large hot glue gun stick, and slice it into little discs about 1/2" thick. They're just the right size.

oh you mean there is suppose to be something inside the gears other then plastic rocks, i think i have to get those bushing thingys.
