Hi,
Just got a rebuilt hr6 comp. I know I have to add about half of the oil capacity to the suction side of the compressor but I don't know which side that is. Could anyone help? I have noticed that on the back of the comp there are two letters engraved, an S and a D. Is the S for suction?
Thanks,

I believe the S is for Suction and the D is for Discharge. Also, IMS, the hose going to the suction side will be larger.

But this is all guesswork, you might want to wait for someone who knows.

This is a pic of the rear of a compressor, not sure if it's exactly the same as your but it should be OK.

The larger opening is the suction side and the smaller opening is the discharge side.

Pour the oil into the larger opening and then turn the compressor over by hand several times, you can do this by turning the center that the pulley rotates around, this will distribute the oil inside.

Almost all rebuilts come with a full charge of oil in them. You likely will have to remove oil, not add it.

Aren't most GM replacement compressors shipped dry? PAG oil (GM recommended) is extremely hygroscopic and would suck up water if not tightly vacuum sealed or pressurized. Also, a replacement compressor may be destined for an R12 system.

Heres a HR6 picture clearly showing the discharge (D) and suction (S) ports.

sometimes it is difficult to figure out if the compressor came with a full charge of oil or if it just has enough oil to keep it lubed for shipping. check the tags that are wired to it. they should tell. or attempt to drain the oil into a clean container and see how much comes out. try to figure out what oil the manufacturer recommends and or the remanufacturer is using in their compressors. i think it wll either be pag or ester, you don't want to mix the two...

can you still get remanufactured or new compressors? I need one. My bearings on my compressor are going bad. Nice grinding noises. Sorry to high jack this thread, this just reminded me.
