I am replacing the broken AM,FM radio in my 85GT with what I thought would be the same radio from an 84. The wiring on the two is the same except for one additional wire on the 84. It is a single gray with white stripe wire with a black connecter. It comes out the same opening as the brown and orange power leads do. Can any one tell me what it is for as the 85 wiring harness appears to have no mating connector.

There are only three connections on a Fiero radio. The big gang connector, a small two wire connector that has it's wires going back into the chassis of the radio, and the antenna socket.

Thanks for the reply JazzMan. Are you sure aboat the 84 wiring of the radio. I took the radio from an 84 Fiero at the wreckers and don't remember if the gray wire was connected or not. It looked like an original installation and the radio is stamped 1983. It seams unlikely to be a latter installation and mounting was is an exact fit. Assuming you are correct have you or any one a suggestion what the extra gray and white wire may be for.

I don't remember what the connector is to, it was used on other models of GM cars. You can leave it disconected.

Would that be the wire used for a power antenna in some vehicles?

I had that on the radio I pulled out of my '84, but it was NOT the stock Fiero radio. GM yes, but it was not Fiero stock. There is nothing it needs to be connected to in the Fiero. Power antenna maybe? Dunno. I didn't check it out when it was in the car. Maybe if I get ambitious next week when the radio is out...
