{EDIT} with answers !!

I’m installing a JVC Receiver. I have a couple of wiring questions (you knew that already, didn’t you)
I have the premium sound w/ sub-woofer on my car, also.

I have my old radio out and all the new speaker wires eg. LF/RF Speaker, LR/RR speakers wired

What I can’t figure out with the Fiero wiring is:

I have one plug that has 2 pins, one orange wire , one brown wire “DO I USE THESE?”
Also, I have a Light Gray wire, and two pink wires, tied together.

edit.... the orange wire is the constant Hot wire from the battery, this keeps the menory/clock
in the receiver working all the time. The brown wire in this small harness does not get used.

The wires I have left over on the new Receiver harness are:

Red – to an accessory terminal EDIT this wire goes to the "yellow " wire or the keyed accessory wire

Yellow – To car Battery (constant 12v) EDIT This wire goes to the red wire on the wire harness.

Blue w/white stripe – Remote/To automatic antena (max 200ma) EDIT This wire is used to suppy power
to a relay for the Factory Sub..

Can you tell me where these wires go to the above wire please?

Orange wire to…..?
Brown wire to…..? Edit: "Not Used"
Light Gray to….? Edit "Not Used" this wire is used only if your receive has dimming cap.
Two pink wires to….? Edit: These wire are for the Factory Sub, I attacted these to a relay that
is attached to the Blue wire with the white stripe

Thanks,
-Michael

ok I can tell you that the orange wire is the constant. But on another note, did you know they make plugs that plug right into the factory harness? I wish I can tell you more, but another thing you can do is get a test light or multimeter, the red(switched) wire goes to a wire that is only hot when the key is turned to "on" or in "assesory". The blue wire comming from the JVC unit is a remote trun on wich, im not sure, you need to turn on your factory amp. I installed on in my car, but I used the adapter harness. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me, I install car stereos professionaly.

Edit: You wont use the brown wire, I think it is for illumination, but your deck doesn't have that.

Like so many "KIDS" that do not purchase the Pontiac Service Manual, everybody has questions on what these wires are.
''88 Pontiac Fiero Service Manual - Page 8A-150-0 thru Page 8A-150-3
Pink No 143 Wire supplies power to the amp to the subwoofer
#40 wire Orange - Hot at all times 25A at fuse block - (Radio Battery Power Input)
#9 wire Brown - Display Dim Power comes from the light switch
Note: There is also a brown wire used as the negative side of the Left Rear Spaeker
There are several gray wires that the rado used, no light gray, just gray.
One gray wire is #8 wire Interior light dimming
Gray w/black stripe negative side of left front speaker and pin #6 at the sub amp
Gray #201 wire Lfet front postive side.
Good wire hunting

Thanks........
I do have a 21 pin GM harness that I am wiring to the stock Fiero wires.

So the Fiero Orange (hot all the time) goes to the yellow (by-pass ignition switch) on the receiver?
And the Fiero Yellow ( accessory ? ) goes to the red (receiver wire) ?
and the gray Fiero wire goes to "what?"

What wire do I use to connect the factory sub to?

sorry for being a pain in ol' butt

the pink wire hooks up to the blue wire on the JVC, because most of the time the pick wires are for power antenna, but since we dont have one its for the amp.

Sometimes you wont use all of the wires, like the other person said, the grey wire is probably an illumination wire, your deck doesnt have that unless there is an orange/white wire coming from the JVC, hope this helped.

Rag - with the car off, use a meter to find out if any of the extra wires is HOT all the time - the factory radio probably had an "Always hot" wire for the clock. I dipped each of my extra wires in silicon, wrapped them in electrical tape, then bundled and labelled them as "old radio" and tucked them in the console tunnel.

That's right.

On the receiver harness, the Red wire should be connected to the Yellow power wire in the Fiero wiring. (The one in the black plug--there is also a yellow speaker wire.) The correct yellow wire should have 12V when the ignition is turned on.

The receiver yellow goes to the orange wire from the two-prong plug on the Fiero.

On the two prong Fiero plug, the orange is constant power, the brown is a "dim" signal. It provides 12V to dim the stock radio LED display when the headlight switch is turned on. Assuming you have all the speakers correctly wired, the gray wire is the panel illumination wire. (There's also a gray speaker wire.) On the factory deck, the gray lights the panel when the lights are turned on, and dims with the dash lighting. You may not need the brown and gray wires on an aftermarket deck. If that's the case, be sure to cap them off so they don't ground out on something.
