Just like the title says, What size wrench do i need to take the oil filter/oil drain plug off? I would like to change my oil on my 88 2.5L but i have no clue what size the bolt is and i have nothing that will fit it.

Thanks in advance

It should be a 15mm. That's what size it was on my 86 2.5L

I think he means the giant plug for the in pan filter.

I don't remember what size it is.

If it won't come out with a wrench or strips... Lisle makes a special tool for that thing. You can order it thru many parts stores.

sounds like a good time to invest in a set of large deep metric sockets.

I think it was 22mm or so.

I think it's 23 mm but 15/16" works.

Just in case you destroy that stamped sheet metal "nut" and have to chisel the cover off , NAPA sells replacement covers.( no need to ask how I know this)

Dorman also has the plug and gasket. They list it having a 24mm head but a 24 socket is real loose on mine and 22 won't slip on.

I use 15/16 when I change my oil. Watch that the gasket stays on the plug.
