hey guys,
anything you can do w/ a crack in a fender-other than replace the whole fender. i've done minor body work on cars but dont know how to approach the plastic bodies we have.

thanks

Why not get one from the wrecking yard?A can of flexible body puddy is going to cost about $8.Wrecking yard maybe $20.I read about plastic welding guns but those are expensive.A quick fix would be to drill 2 small holes on the verry bottom edge, were the wheel well liner is (drill the holes a good 2/8 ths from the crack, that way they wont break free when twisting the wire) then take a piece of thin wire and thread it through the holes on the bottom side, then twist it just barley snug (over tightening will break the wire). This will prevent the fender from flexing. Now use your choice of body fill, regelar body filler will work if you want a quick fix.

If you have any kind of crack, I'd suggest replacing the thing since you can get one for next to nothing. It's probably easier in the long run. But, if you can't find a good cheap one, you can fix it by using a 2 part flexible panel repair kit that is sold to repair bumper covers. You can get that at any body shop supply company, and some parts stores such as NAPA, I believe.

If you are going to repair, you need to reinforce the back side of the panel with something solid, then cut out the crack and groove the fender, fill it with the repair schmuck, and sand to the proper contour. Prime, sand, and repaint,

Sounds easy? It's not too bad...

thanks for the quick replys.

ya i figured it'd be easiest and best to just replace. i assume all models 84-88 fenders will fit right. if not i have an 85.

Yes, they are all the same. The mounting holes may be slightly different and an aero fender will have a few more holes than a regular style. Try to buy the same style and colour and you're off. Just compare to the mounts on your car or the other fender when mounting.

You can go to s/s bolts and nuts, plastic rivets or a suitable 'push pin' fastener. All will work in a pinch and be hidden when done.

For the front end,Any bumper repair body puddy will work or flexible body puddy.I have even used regular body puddy for the front end, facia without it cracking or falling out.
