I've got 2 V6s. My 85SE, you can drive for about 10 miles after it starts spitting and sputtering because its out of gas, yes I know its bad for the pump. But my 86GT, when its even low, if I corner hard, it almost dies, and you dont have any warning what so ever that its about to run out of gas (except for the obvious "E" on the guage) it just flat out dies.
Its got a miss to it, pretty much throughout the RPM range, and above 5500 it misses horribly, Any ideas? Its mostly all new in the engine bay, I wasnt really thinking it was a miss because of fuel, but I wanted to ask about the strange behavior.
BTW, the 85 is an auto, 86 5spd, both V6. And the 86 has good power

Mine was doing the same thing on the 3800, was the fuel filter. I haven't really gotten on it to test that theory again, but when I did give it gas it didn't loose its power like it did before.

I had the same symptoms when I hit 5500 it fell on its face, had a slight kick, fell again then I had to shift. Not sure how long its been since you replaced the filter?

almost everytime I've had a miss it's electrical. Are the plugs/wires new? How about the distributor cap...any corrosion on the posts or on the rotor. If everything is relatively new, try unplugging all the spark plug wire connections and then putting them back on.....one may not be making good contact

Hmmm... fuel filter, looks to be factory, lol. ive been meaning to change it, that could be my high rpm problem, but doesnt explain why it behaves diffrently, or misses at idle does it?

New parts: cap rotor, wires, plugs, coil, timing set, EGR, and pretty much everything else, but I think thats all that is relevent to the situation. The distributor is not factory, its been replaced at some point in time.

Also: with my timing light it seems to be missing on several diffrent cylenders, but only intermittently, a couple never seem to miss, some more frequenty, but my light's not perfect, I think I need to replace the pickup.

sounds to me like an ignition module or pick-up coil.... mine missed sometimes as well at around 2300rpm, changed the ign. module and it went away, i could see it missing a spark with the timing light as well...
