can someone help me set up my distributor all I got is cranking by ptboy

hi, I put a new dist in my duke. I was dam sure I had cy 1 at tdc then I set rotor to point at wire 1 in cap. I figured the car should start and then I'd do the timing, but all I got is the car cranking. I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff so please be aware of that if you respond.

When you set cylinder #1 to TDC, did you make sure it was TDC on the compression stroke? The best way to do that is to put your finger over the spark plug hole while someone turns (by hand) the engine. If you don't feel pressue on your finger, then you are not on the compression stroke.
