Is it possible to remove the valve covers on a V6 to adjust the valve lash without removing the upper intake ?

yes, but its actually easier if you do remove the 2 plenums. especially when it comes time to put the valve covers back on. I've done it both ways, and will not do it without taking the plenums off again.

I agree with Pyrthian. If you do decide to take off the plenums to make the job easier, spray down your engine before doing the project unless it's already clean. When I do this I rap the distributor in a plastic bag, and then just make sure not to spray at any one certain area for to long. This will make the job easier if the engine is gungy, plus less chance of crap falling in.
