Today I decided to take my Fiero for a spin since it was a warm day (about 90) and I decided to drive it tonight. So I was driving to my house, and I thought I smelled a hot smell. When I got there, there was white smoke pouring out of my engine vents, and there was oil on my valve cover. The temp gauge didn't say it was hot, but I'm also getting a code 23, so I dunno.. I also added a little oil before I started driving it, because my poor little fiero has a chronic oil leak. I spilled a little on the vavle cover, but there was a lot more on it than what I spilled. Hopefully someone here can help me, and if you can, then a + for you. Thanks, Will

Oh yeah, it's an 88 4 cyl. auto if that helps.

On my old 85 Olds Cutlass Cruiser wagon with ye ol' Iron Duke the engine decided to puke up oil through the PCV filter on the top the valve cover and filled the air filter with it.. about 500mi later it gave up the ghost...clang clang... I am guessing that the oil is not getting back down out of the valve train because something is plugged... may be a plea for help from the little guy.

Sounds like you may have blown a valve cover gasket (no biggie).I would try to snug up the valve cover nuts, the gasket may not even be blown.Snug up the oil pan bolts to,that may stop your oil leak on the bottom (don't over tighten).See if that helps...

Start by checking your PCV valve - pull it out, shake it, see if it rattles. If it doesn't rattle, replace it.

Next, check the valve cover bolts. 10 mm socket and extension, finger tight plus 1/2 turn is all. Don't overtighten!

Let us know what you find. Please be careful - the smoke from burning oil is flammable; you probably don't want to drive it until you have this problem corrected.

Well, I tightened the valve cover bolts, but almost all seemed to be tight already. PCV valve rattles, so it must be good... It was kinda coming out of the hole though. The oil leak on the bottom seems to be coming from the passenger side front part of the engine somewhere near the pulley. Oil pressure is good, about 60 cold, and 20 warm. Thanks again, and +'s for all. -Will
