I have been a long-time fan of the BFG brand of tires. My dad worked for BF Goodrich for about 20 years and our whole family has always been happy with their products. Well, as many of you may or may not know, BFG has discontinued the Comp T/A line in favor of the G-Force T/A line. I bought a pair of G-Force KDWS tires for the front of my 87 Trans Am GTA and must say that I was not as happy with those as I was with the Comp ZR's I had out back. Interestingly enough, the Comp ZR's have outlasted the KDWS's and have been on the car twice as long, and on the drive axle no less. Don't get me wrong, the KDWS tires are ok, they handle excellent but they don't ride nor wear for crap.

Well, recently BFG has released a new tire line, the Traction T/A. There are supposed to be a step under the G-Force's as far as performance is concerned but they carry a 60,000 mile warranty. They currently make 3 versions: V (149mph), H (130mph), and T-speed (118mph) rated. The T-speed rated tires are not as good (performance-wise) as the H or V rated versions, but they are supposed to last longer (70,000 miles) and offer a better ride. Since I wanted performance, I opted for a pair of H-speed rated 225/55R16's for the back of my Fiero. Well, I ordered them last week and got them put on today and I must say I am very impressed with the look and feel of these tires. If I didn't know any better, I would think I was looking at a set of rebadged Comp ZR's when I look at these tires. They are directional, offer a Traction Rating of AA, Temperature Rating of A, and a Treadwear of 440. The seem to hook really good and offer a lot of handling grip without a lot of noise. These new tires do everything better than the Goodyear Regatta's they replaced (doh, those were old, go figure) plus the ride is better.

I highly recommend the H- and V- speed rated BFG Traction T/A tires to anyone who is interested in a performance tire that will last more than a couple of seasons.

I've been looking at the Traction T/A's for when I replace the wheels on my car (as well as Dunlop SP 5000 and Kuhmo Ecsta 711). One question: have you had a chance to test them out in the rain yet? It rains alot here in Florida, so wet weather traction is critical.

I just got these for my 01 Grand Am GT to replace the Goodyear RSA's (which were the worst tires I ever had). Only got about 1,000 miles on the Traction T/A's, but I'm very happy with them. I got the V rated. Traction is very good on dry and wet roads. Also, they were alot cheaper than other tires of the same size and speed rating. IMO a better value overall.

Well as far as cost the 225 55 R16 H-rated ones retail for $100/ea at Sam's Club, but that is kind-of a weird size, I was going to get the 222 60 R16's like I had on it but decided against keeping the taller sidewall. The 60 series ones only cost $80/ea for H-rated, probably because it is a more common size. Depends on what you want.

I have not tried these out in the rain yet but they do have a AA traction rating for wet roads and the Tire Rack.com reviews and servey results said these tires had excellent wet traction characteristics.

I change my rims based on my driving intentions. I have 225 50/R16 V-rated T/A's on my Koenig-Reign rims. Currently I have the 15" Cromadora's w/ Firehawks installed on the car and I can definately say the T/A's are WAY BETTER w/ respect to handling. Gotta give BF Goodrich two thumbs up on these tires. One of the best price vs. performance options available out there.

I finally got a chance to try these things out in the rain. As far as drive tire wet traction is concerned, I have NEVER had a tire hook as good as these do. I was able to give the engine 5 psi of boost on wet asphalt without tire spin. The handling also seemed to be unaffected by the wet conditions but I did not push the car that hard either.

I definately recommend these tires to anyone looking for an all-around performance street tire. They probably won't hook as good as a DOT Nitto drag radial, but they will hook better than about 99% of the radials out there and will probably last just as long (assuming you are hooking and not burning them up). IMHO, better than the Comp T/A in every respect including price.
