I got a trunk lock cylinder from the Fiero Store and treid to put in my deck lid today.
The lock had been punched out before I got the car and I do not seem to be able to get the rod to stay in the lock. I am obviously doing something wrong but I am baffled as to how this thing goes together. Does anybody have a picture or diagram of the assembly so I can see how the rod/rods fit into the lock cylinder and latch mechanism. I tried the search function for this and came up empty. Any help would be appreciated.

the twisty part of the bar goes through a spring,
(notice my spring is all messed up)

put the lock in first,
hold it in place and slide the bracket with the two flat blades in.
attach two screws.

install the latch,
sliding the bar into a slot on the latch.
dont totally tighten the two bolts that hold the latch in place. you may have to adjust it to line up with the hook and to have the deck lid closed at the correct height.

all done

Thanks BuddyCraig. + to you.
I do not have the spring which is why my latch rod kept falling out. I knew it had to be something simple or was missing a part. You confirmed this for me.

I am looking at the parts for replacing my lock. I have two of the pieces of metal that connect the lock cylinder to the mechanism. One is long one is shorter. Can assume that the shorter one is for notchbacks?

I figured it out. There was no tension on the spring until I brought the outside end of the spring around. Now its perfect. + to buddycraigg.

$20 fierostore.com and one could come your way. I can't wait to install it tomorrow. It has never had a lock since I have owned the car. Until now there has been an open space in which a screwdriver has been inserted to open the lid. I hope the old screws are in there.

It is 9/16 of an inch around with 5 coils. The coil closest to the key has the catch loop on the outside, and the one closest to the engine has the loop on the inside.

I have it installed but it there seems to be nothing holding the lock cylander in place. By putting the key into the lock I can push it deeper into the trunk.

By looking at the photos in this thread I am able to see that my deck has some previous damage or I am missing some parts. What do you think? The previous owner had issues with the lock when he closed a towel in the mechanism causing it to jam. This may be the result. If it is not missing any parts I can make one that would hold the lock in place.

you are missing this plate.

what you can not see in this pic is that it has two flat blades, one goes on each side of the lock.

if you do get the factory screws, dont be surprised if they dont fit anymore.
it's a metal screw going in to fiberglass. so the hole gets stripped out by torque crazy screwdriver yealding (sp?) bandits.
