How do you remove a solid roof panel from a 1987 Fiero Coupe? I want it to put on my 84.

first you need to remove all the interior around the roof (headliner, plastic trim, etc) you will then need to remove about 10 bolts, 8 around the cutout in the frame, and 1 at each forward corner. Next you need to remove any trim outside that would prevent roof removal (wipers, leaf shield) remove the bolts attaching the front of the roof to the frame, and don't forget, the front is also attached to the rear most fender bolts. Once you have all the hardware removed, you need to release the mastic used to attach the roof to the frame, I found using a flat brade screwdriver, weedeater line, cardboard (to place between the frame and roof to prevent it from reattaching itself), a couple blocks of wood, and LOTS of patience! I'd suggest attempting removal on the roof you don't want to keep since it's very easy to crack the small side rails during removal. This way when your removing the roof you don't care if it's damaged it won't be as big of a deal, and you can find the trick that works for you.

I used the same method to remove mine, only I used windshield removal wire instead of weed eater line. As 862M4inCA allready stated be gental and and take your time. It's very easy to crack the A pillars.

I used a long piece of 1" X 1/8" bar stock sharpened like a chisel to break the mastic along the front and a serrated steak knife to work down along the "A" pillars. The warmer it is the better when you do this to make the mastic as soft as possible.

There's a procedure listed here:

I can vouch for the "take your time approach". Got in a hurry trying to beat the yard's closing time and ended up with a crack. Not bad, but pi$$ed me off!

I also saw a well known pennocks member who cut off his solid roof at the top of the a pillars and then fiberglassed in his "new" sunroof----that way he didn't have to worry about breaking his windshield like I did. DO NOT PRY TOWARD THE WINDSHIELD when removing the a pillars!!! Also, the flimsy dryrotted part of the roof which resides under the winshield wipers will likely break in two but it really doesn't matter.
