I got a set of new GT quarterwindows from the Fierostore but it comes without mounting hardware. They suggest to "bolt" it to the car?! Has anyone done that and how? I don't want to damage those windows.... If it does not work, what is the best doublesided tape to use with the windows? Thnx

A lot of people use double sided tape. They say to bolt it because of the fear of it coming loose and falling off since they aren't cheap. When got my Fiero, it was bolted on which I didn't like. But now that I look at it, it's not really noticable so I don't care.
The stock Fiero GT sail panel was held in place by double sided foam tape. If you have ever tried to remove factory installed sail panels from the car, you'll realize just how well they were attached.
You need to find that GM quality tape, not the cheap stuff from Walmart.
I'm unsure how you would "bolt" on the sail panels unless you start drilling holes through the sail panel. Definitely a hack installation job.

Yes I have removed some windows before, that old tape was very good! (but worse to remove!)
I heard some 3M tape would work well....so I am looking for the part number....
Another thing I just thought of: One could use rivets all around the sail panel, you could make it a "style". I will take a look at that one, but it could be tricky........
Hidden mounts would be ideal but I guess I will end up with double sided tape...

Just make sure it's *good* tape. The stuff you'd find at Wal-Mart or AutoZone would probably let go the first time you hit the freeway or when it rains. I went to a local body shop, and bought some from them (about $7, IIRC). It's a 3M-brand tape, but of a harder to find variety. Thicker and stickier than what I found in the hardware or auto parts stores. I don't remember the number on the tape, but it had red peel-off backing.
I'll see if I can find the part number when I get home, I have it somewhere in my Fiero folder on the computer.

No window scoop's...?? You need to custom build a set of window scoop's that are different then the rest....
Hmm, I already did that! But I will not use them because I dont want to "overscoop" the car.....Thats also why I skipped my roofscoop and fender vents although they were almost finished....
Kill your darlings!

I suggest using a tube of silicone and glueing them on. There is a GT here in Reynoldsburg that has a pair of quarter panel scoops bolted on and it looks kinda silly.

I also used black silicone to mount mine. Lot better than 2 sided tape to me, plus you seal the edge so water dont keep running out of the seam when you wash it. Ive seen too many taped ones fall off on freeways on a hot day.

Yeah, I used clear automotive glass silicone to stick mine in. Lot's of tape to hold it in place the time it takes to set up (I gave it 24hrs to be sure!).
If anyone DOES find the part number for the ubber thick double sided tape though, I'd like to know about it! (I think it's 3/16" bu don't quote me on that)

There was a thread about the "right" tape some time ago but I can''t find it. I sure would like to know the part number. It would be great if there was a system simmilar like how speaker grills are attached to speaker housings...they sit very tight but you can pop them out with a screwdriver. It could be possible to glue/glass some to the sailpanel but I am not sure whether the paint on the back of the sailpanel will react to those chemicals....I would be nice if you just can pop them out for a cleaning job or a paintjob
anyway, I see there are different options...so I got something to think about
found an example of some speakerplugs: got some gears turning now.....grrr

Not sure if this would help for the GT windows, but according to www.fierosails.com this is the stock number for the 3M tape on the notchback style windows.
NOTE: To attach the sail panels to the frame, use 3M double sided tape, Stock No. 06384 (1/2" x 0.045" x 5 yd) available from NAPA, Pep Boys, and other similar parts stores. Ask for it by the 3M stock number. (THIS TAPE IS FOR THE NOTCHBACK SAIL PANEL ONLY, NOT THE FASTBACK VERSION.) If you can't locate it we have it and can apply it to your sail panels for $3 per panel. This way all you have to do is peel off the protective backing on the tape and stick the sail panel to the car. WARNING! In one instance that we know of, use of the wrong tape caused the paint to peel from the back of the sail panel and the panel came loose. Use the recommended tape so you avoid this problem.
Another tape which will work well is 3M Stock No. 03609. This is identical to Stock No. 06384 but is only 5 feet long. This is enough to do one sail panel, but comes up about 16 inches short for two panels.

Oh no, I was talking about mine. Do you have a fiero too?! But seriously, I am trying to get the final result look like a complete design, not a fiero with added bodywork....so it literally means I have to kill many mods during the process.
Anyway, I've been thinking about the speakerplugs thingie. It looks like the fastback rearclip has enough possibilties to put the plugs in: Maybe I am carried away with this.....but it could be fun to try Anyone sponsoring a new set of sailpanels when the experiment fails?

From the factory, both pieces are clean and an adhesion promoter affectionately called "primer" is used. The "primer" makes the double sided tape stick much better than you could imagine.
