If my egr solenoid is bad (or gone)?

It is bad, I took it apart and did this test (which is brilliant BTW, thanks buddy). The solenoid does nothing. period. I basically destroyed it by the end of the test, and felt it worthless to put back in since it was not working in the first place.

So now it is gone. Entirely. Should I get a new one? How bad is it for the car? Will I get better gas mileage if I replace it? Will the car run better? Any other problems I should know about. Thanks everyone!

I have heard stories,
and these are just stories mind you!
But as it goes some say that it will burn
up the #3 cylinder and then I think #5 if you
run without egr.

Somebody else will chime in soon enough to
either verify or disprove this.

I haven't had a EGR on my car for 2 years now. Its better for milage to have it working. The solenoid should be pretty easy to replace.

yeah it is an easy part to replace, but it costs $100. I was just wondering if it was worth it. I have not cat, so plugging it is not a problem

Without an EGR and nothing else done to the car, You do stand a chance of running a little on the lean side. Running lean at a high RPM for an extended length of time will burn a hole in a piston. (seen it and had it happen to me on another car) To run without an EGR, it is better to have a chip burned that never turns it on. The ECM will advance the timing and change the fuel requirements when the EGR is suppose to be working.
