I have 255-45 17 on my 88GT. The rim is 8 inchs wide in the rear with the stock offset of 35mm and 7inchs in the front with a 38mm offset. The year of car, wheel off sets and width has alot to do with how it fits.

you might be in trouble i have 225/45/117 on mine and it as big as i could go on a 7 inch rim accordig to the AVON site, i have avon ZZ1's and falken ze512's, if you take it to a tire shop to slid it on the rim they will tell you if it doesn't fit.
By way of example: Kumho MX specs call for a minimum 7.5" rim for their 235-45-17 while their 225-45-17 is spec'd for a 7" rim. However, I doubt that you couldn't fit the tires on your rims... might bulge just a little on the sidewalls though.
I can only recomend you to use them, with wider tires the Fiero handles a lot better and it looks a lot better too, I have 17 X 7.5 all arround with 35 positive offset with 235/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear, doesnt rub anywhere and looks awsome.
hey thanks Ales you pretty much answered a question I had started another thread for. If you have any pix maybe you can post them or do a PM? or email them to me off site; whatever........ I would like to see how they look! thx gp

I dont have a new picture of my car right now with this setup, I only have 1 picture of my car with the older tires 235/40/17 all around, if you like to see this one, I can post it for you, but let me try to borrow a digicam to take a picture of my car with the newer setup 235/45/17 front & 255/45/17 rear.
If you go to a website like the TireRack they will tell you under Specs what size rims a tire should be used with, as well as what rim the tire was on when the spec dimensions were taken.
