Check the clutch fork for travel at the slave cylinder. Must be at least 1inch travel when clutch is depresses and S/B 1 1/8th.

i have heard of things getting caught in the shifter. take off the shifter surround. its only 4 bolts under the ashtrays. there may be a coin or something stuck in the shifter.

Did he try shifting into 1st and letting the car roll a bit in gear, then try to find reverse?

Reverse isn't synchronized like the forward gears are. By shifting into a forward gear it helps get everything "lined up" for an easier shift into reverse.

Question to you. With the car on a flat surface, put the car in firs geart. Then start the car , Leaving the clutch pedal fully depressed and engine running, hold it there for at least 10 seconds. Does the car move forward? If so then you have a hydrolic problem, that is you have a weak rubber seal in the master or slave cylinder or both, you lost hydrolic fluid. and need to bleed the system. If bleeding does not slove it you need to replace your seals... Also can you put the car into reverse with the cengine off? If so start it up in reverse. Dose it move backwards with the clutch pedal fully depressed? if you replace all of your clutch master/slave parts wit a rebild kit.

Sometimes trusting a mechanic to find any gear in a manual transmission car can be a mistake in the days of wide spread use of automatic transmission cars.
There are some Fieros as well as other makes that take a "special touch" to locate them. Usually, only the owner knows for sure.
