For mud and snow is it possible to add some sort of limited slip differential to the V6 - 4 speed manual transaxle?

As a member for all of two weeks now I was disappointed in your response; I thought this was a technical forum. I can get opinions as to my driving habits from my wife but thought you guys could help with some technical info! By the way this is my beater - even my quad and snow machine each cost 4 times as much and run in mud and snow all the time.

Seriously though, I think the Fiero has some rallying potential and here in the foothills of the Rockies in Alberta I have thousands of miles of mud and gravel roads and 5 months of snow. Thanks for your concern.

Yes it is possible. Here is a thread that is on the same topic. Enjoy.

www.gr8grip.com

Bud is developing a diff that will be 80% more effective than a Phantom Grip. I'll be running one in my car in a couple of weeks.

Chris/Will - Thanks for the info. Does not look like too many Fiero owners care about getting two wheels to spin. Will, please let me know how the unit works out.

Personally, I've never had a problem with only one wheel spinning in snow/mud, including a few rally cross events at race city. However, I am interested if you do plan on rallying this car. I've wanted to get into rallying for some time, but never had the means to. However, if your looking for a codriver who knows fieros pretty well, lemme know.

Hi kjstauffer,

Try this link, I know some of the fiero owners have used in the past in their transmissions, these are the best LSD available, expensive, but with a lifetime warranty even in racing use :

from what I understand, a posi-track differential wouldnt be much benifit to these cars on the street because of the way the engine is situated. with the big V8 engines pointed front to back, you get the torque taking pressure off of one side of the car. with the fiero, the engine shifts back and forth..

however, if you want somthing for "offroad use" (not sure about the legalities of it) you could always weld the differential shut so it cant turn.. (crazy automotive teacher tought us this!).. just an idea.. appearentally our teacher used to do this with the cars he built for drag racing.

but good luck if you plan to ever run that on pavement with a solid rear!

just some ideas on the topic..

hope you find a solution..

Contact mantaparts. There were Quaifes made for the Getrag 282. They are not made anymore but Mantaparts can get their hands on old race units.
