Pro's and Con's to OBD and OBD II Northstar computers

OBD pros-
-reprogrammable
-personalized settings(?)

OBD cons
-no on the go diagnostics/troubleshooting

OBD II pros-
-onboard computer diagnostics without aftermarket stand alone system

OBD II cons-
-not reprogrammable

Is anyone running a OBD II setup now???

Thanx,
Travis

If you really want to do it right, get an engine management system from Electromotive or another company. It will give total control and super tuneability (yeah I made the word up). I've watched my son get like 30-40 extra HP from an engine by installing a Tech-II or Tech-III system. Why mesx with OEM computers when you can get one fo those? You can set things like, injector timing and durration, spark timing and other issues.

simple answer, cause I'm spending $4000 on my entire swap and would rather not spend half of my budget on that.. lol There are other ways. It just may not be the ideal perfect solution for the absolute perfect project. Just a speed bump thats all.

Did that make sense to anyone but me?

I suppose it would kill your budget, especially when you have to pay for a tuner and dyno time. Since I have almost free acess to both, I tend to forget about that cost. I will eventualy add one to my 2.8 turbo. Here's one for ya, we put a Tech-II (distributor-less ing) on my 76 Fiat 124 spider which also has 4 mikuni carbs, headers, hi-comp pistons and other goodies. I would bet it's the only 124 in the USA and probably the world with that setup. Maybe in a few years when you get the rest of your car done you might want to look into a management system, they really work great. Good luck with your project.
