In many cases... simply taking the socket off and putting it back is enough cleaning even when the grease seems pretty bad. That socket grease is odd stuff.
If youn have dim lighting the first thing I'd check, after the lamps and sockets, are the ground anchors for the lamps up front and the various grounds in the engine bay. Next would be the large terminal under C500 in most Fiero models. Any of those bad will cause dim lighting. (Headlights are one of the major draws in most cars.)
To make cleaning a bit easier....
the terminals can be removed. Do this one at a time!
There is a notch on one side of each terminal hole. (viewed from lamp side.) use a small screw driver or stiff wire to gently depress the tang in that notch into the terminal. Pull the terminal out the back of the socket.
Dielectric grease will do in a pinch but lamp socket grease is prefered. You can get small amounts of socket grease at some parts stores and oddly at Walmart. (It is with the automotive lamps at walmart and some parts stores.) The socket grease is thicker and is made to take the heat better than dielectric. (Does anyone know of a source for a larger size, like a couple ounce, tube of lamp grease?)
