I've read in previous posts that an upgraded ignition system would help the stock 2.8 in the higher RPM's.

My question is, what brand name, item number or any specifics can anybody tell me?

I plan on doing an igniton upgrade on my 86 V6 soon,
was planning on going with crane coil and crane plug wires (25 ohms/foot, best), and a new ignition control module. Also bought a pick up coil from the Fiero Store
Stick with AC-Delco spark plugs in my opinion

All parts from Summit Racing (summitracing.com)

Crane Ignition Coil, part # CRN-730-0491 $49.95
Crane Fire Wire Plug Wires (V6 universal), part #CRN-255-0061 $44.99
Holley Ignition Control Module part # HLY-891-103 $59.95

good luck
Dave

Edit : I would be interrested in what cap and rotor people are using

yes, a MSD or ACCELL coil or simelar will help the upper RPMs.
the boxes dont do much unless you have high compression or boost

If you search around to different forums, The two most popular ignition systems are the MSD and the Crane Fireball.
The multi-dicharge units work the best. I am using the Crane Fireball with thier PS91 Fireball coil and Accel 8.8mm wires.
You can order them from Summit Racing or Jegs.

I like the Crane coil, too. Looks stock, but really has more "oomph". Last one I had went 60,000 miles before it failed!
Autozone has a red cap & rotor with brass (rather than aluminum) contacts that looks good and works great. I think its about $15.00.

I agree completely. You're just wasting your money on the multiple spark boxes.
I had one on my last Fiero and was not impressed.

The Accel cap and rotor holds up to high output ignitions the best from my experience but, as mentioned already, the ones from Autozone are red so they match the intake and valve covers better.

Dump the stock wires, they're complete garbage!
The Accel 8.8's, as Oreif mentioned, are great but don't use the 'super stock' Accel wires. They're not good at all.
MSD 8.5 Super Conductors and Magnacores are also good choices. (both red)
Taylor also has red wires but the resistance is more then the others. Thought i had the resistance written down but now i can't find it.
Still not to bad for street wires and far better then the stock or Autozone wires would be.

If you're looking for the lowest resistance plug wires, get crane firewire from what I've seen

the crane wires are rated at 25ohms/foot (not too colorful though, all I've found are black)
MSD are rated at 50ohms/foot (red and look nice)
splitfire from fierostore (crappy) are about 8000 ohms/foot if I remember right (I have some and measured it)

I had the MSD ignition box with no other upgrades and it did not make alot of difference. I added the MSD coil, and it was a whole new ballgame

Definited improvement in the high rpms and better torque out of the hole.

This spring I'll be smarter. New wires and sparks (The ones I had on last season were s**t.

What Arns85GT said is correct. I have both the 6-A box and MSD coil. the coil is what does the trick, the box is just a waste of money.

I completely disagree my Accel 300+ made a HUGE different. Like when I am autoxing, I am going through a corner a little too hot in first gear I don't hit the feaking fuel cut. However, power wise I ran it down the 1/4 a few times with and without and noticed no difference. Of course this only applies to the fieros with the fuel cut. However, it might save a little over eving if you don't have one.
