I have and 87 se V6 5spd. i am going to get some GT style rims. what would be the tire size to fit on the knew rims and still keep the speddo correct. The GT rims i think are 6 in. wide, and i was told that it would not be a good idea to put tires on it bigger than 215. I went to a miata tire sizing web site i saw and it said 225 55 15 would fit perfect but discount tire had no such size on their site.
i think my current tires are 195 either 60 or 70 14.

thanks

they are 7 inches wide and you can fit upto a 245 on there, if you put 235/55/R15 its within .1% of stock, right now i have 225/60/R15 b/c it was another 20 bucks a tire to get it in 55 series. btw Dunlop Sport A2's come in all the weird sizes(i got the only 4 in the SE of the USA)

86-87 GT rims are the same, front and rear, and they are 15X7. The 88 GT's and Formula's havw a different front rim, with a flush outer face and a little narrower, I believe, to keep the offset the same. I went up 1 size front and rear and stayed with 60 series. 225/60/15 rear, 215/60/15 front works good for me. The diameter is only about .5 inch greater, if that much. They can be found easily and cheaply. My speedo inaccuracy is pretty negligible, and the tires still fit well even with it lowered. I can send you a side shot of the car if you want to see one; just send me an e-mail.

i dont think you can go bigger than 245 in the back without hitting the suspension.

225 50 is a verry good fit on the back. Just dont even try to go over 225 on the stock 7 inch wide rim, it is to wide. The 225 50 is what I have on my 88 GT.
