My battery is dead(car has been sitting since the end of Oct.) and am thinking of getting one of those Optma gell-cell batterys(red top). Has any one mounted one of these in the stock location? If yes how?
If possable please post photos. I autocross this car and the battery must NOT move.

Thanks

We just installed the full/size red-top last week. Fits great. Comes with a hard plastic holder that substitutes for the stock one. Slightly different shape, more curved, snugs up better. While it's an excellent fit I can't advise on whether it'll hold up under autocross conditions.

My understanding is that there's a heat shield that needs to be removed -- it was already gone when we got the car.

Hope this helps.

Don't have one in any of my Fieros, but I have a red top Optima that's mounted on a cart with jumper cables permenantly attached for booster battery service at my business. I use the thing practically every day, and it gets run down and recharged constantly, as well as getting kicked around and tipped over once in a wile. I just had to replace mine last week however, as it died after 14 YEARS .those suckers are just about bullit proof.

Costco has a red top Optima battery (about 720cca, is this the large or small one?) for $99.99. It did not look like the stock battery "toe clamp" will work with the Optima. Thought of just drilling the tray for "J" bolts.
