88's have the foil wrapped Y-pipe.

It's not a direct swap, the biggest drawback is that the head pipe on the 88 Y-pipe is shorter than the earlier years. The EGR port is slightly offset more, and the 02 sensor mounts toward the transaxle.

If you want to use the 88 Y-pipe, you will need to lengthen the collector heigth that runs off the cat, after that the EGR and 02 will fit without any issue.

I removed the insulation from my Formula's Y-pipe. The underhood temps went up significantly, and the car started eating ignition modules. If you remove the insulation, have the Y-pipe thermal coated. It's not terribly expensive. Two Sprint manifolds and a Y-pipe cost me $160 to have coated.

Where can I get some replacement "waffle wrap" for my 88 Formula? I had to use an '87 Y-pipe and they don't have the wrap. I cobbed one together out of aluminum dryer vent stuffed with fibreglass batting--works great, heatwise, but looks exactly like what it is, a dryer vent in my engine compartment. Thanks.
