Ive got two engines here that came from the old IRM warehouse, they are both 87-88 blocks, but i dont have any idea which year models they are, the alternators are gone, and so are the oil pressure sensors, those were the only two ways i knew of to tell them apart, where on the block do i look for numbers, and what numbers will let me know which year model they are?

I dont want to put a unbalanced flywheel on a balanced block or vice versa.....

If your talking about 2.8 blocks, I think the 88s have a machined face with a bolt hole tapped where a crank position sensor would otherwise be installed. looks like a long teardrop in the middle of the block. Which side, I don't recall.

It's on the right (trunk) side. Also, if you pull the pan, the 88 crank will have a disc in the middle of the crank, which would have been used for the crank trigger if it didn't have a distributor.
