Has anyone done a Fiero with a rotary (Mazda) engine?

I'm new here, sorry if this is an old topic.

Thanks.

My friend has a 93 RX7 with a 13B and the stock twin turbos and it screams! We're doing a single turbo T70 setup right now. I haven't driven a Fiero with one, but the powerband with the twin turbos just keeps getting higher; I bet it would be insane in a Fiero, if you don't mind mixing and matching parts. Figuring out the wiring and all would be insane though. Good luck with whatever you plan to do and welcome to the forum!!

What kind of wiring is involved? FI? Are there carbed versions?

Actually I'm planning on a 302 Chevy in an '88 with a '84 4.10 4-sp. I've also got an '85 I plan to drive with a 4 cyl ? or ?

What's the difference between an Iron Duke and a Tech-4?

so I'm not the only one who thinks a 302 in a fiero would be awesome.
I plan on building one up and putting it in in a fiero down the road.

Well, I've got a bunch of 302 parts I collected (always thought '69Zs were awesome) and this seems like the perfect application. With a mild cam, the 302 will rev forever and still have plenty of torque for a small car. It's also not as likely to break things as a bigger motor. Too bad they aren't lighter than a bigger motor.

"Iron Duke" is a name people came up with for the Tech-4. They're the same thing.

Ummm, the Iron Duke came in Sunbirds etc. before there was a Fiero.

I thought the Tech4s had better rods and some other stuff. It's got a multi rib belt instead of v-belts, I know that.

i think the tech4 was the "new, improved" duke, with an overhead cam and dis. i had one in a late 80s buick.

as for the rotary in a fiero, the question comes up every couple of months but i dont think anyone has actually done it.

Nope. When the Iron Duke met the Fiero, it was re-christened Tech 4. Only significant difference is the cross-flow head. No overhead cam; dis didn't come until the '87 models.

I've been talking about a similar venture w/ a guy over at grassroots motorsports ... the problem w/ a rotory on a FWD style car is where the exhaust is... the exhaust ports are right where the axles are... but it has been done before

http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=1564&highlight=

it's something i'd love to do w/ the mr2 one day... would be a killer engine for any mid engine car ;-)

That looks pretty cool!

The Fiero has the CV by the diff but I guess it would interfere with the rear exhaust port. How much can you tilt the motor without running into problems? Other than the pan / pickup it doesn't seem like it would cause problems.
