I recently purchased a new/rebuilt engine from Advance Auto Parts
and after getting everything together and running i noticed the #6 cyl
was getting the exhaust red hot, (glowing red)and it was just the #6 cyl, the others look fine. My question is: could it be the fuel injector causing the exaust to get so hot? When I installed the fuel injectors only one of them had a cap on the bottom of it. and i think is was cyl 6. I noticed on the Fiero Store website that the new injector o-ring kit comes with new caps. What is the purpose of the cap and do I need them on all injectors? I ordered an o-ring kit locally and it only came with the o-rings no caps. I also tried to removed the cap to make it the same as the rest but I was unable to remove it, and for fear of breaking the injector i left it on. do these just snap on?

tks for any help
jim

If you are running lean on a cylinder it can run hot.

It could be the injector.

I'm no expert and hopefully somebody else will pick it up after
Christmas.

hi, if it is the whole manifold , either side or both, then it is probably vaccum leak/egr. if it is individaul cylinder, then valve train and parts, or abnormal wear that cylinder, or injector or wires and or connector, not good to run very long like this get fixed as soon as necessary. at the very least a red glowing manifold is a fire hazard...be careful...good luck...
