ok, i just bought my first fiero, it's an 86 GT fastback and it was sittin for quite a while b4 i got it so i went to change all the fluids and replace plugs and plug wires and then ran into a problem. when going to replace the plugs on the back side of the motor i couldn't seem to get the socket onto the plugs, like there was something stopping it. so after plenty of cursing i got a mirror and took a peek back there and there was a bunch of rust around the plug itself. so much that it was keeping the socket from getting on the plug. now i tried to scrape some off with a metal pick but couldn't get enuf of it and i was wondering if there was some product out there that could take care of this?? perhaps some sort of liquid, i was thinking penatrating oil but haven't tried that yet, i figured i would ask around a bit first.
also another question i have is how to ajust the headlights so they come up further, the one on the pass. side of the car doesn't come up as far as the other and i was wondering if there was an easy way to ajust that. forgive me for all the questions but like i said this is my first fiero so i'm a newbie. they're kinda confusing when you first work on them, i hooked up all my plug wires completely backwards because i thought i was looking at a FWD car and thought the #6 cylinder was the #1 cylinder...took me a while to figure that one out... anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

Get a can of "PB Buster" Spray in in there, let it sit then blow it out with compressed air. You can get it at most hardware and auto parts stores.

There is no way to adjust the opening height of the headlights to my knowledge.

In most cases if a headlight is not opening fully, it's an indication that one of the gears inside the headlight motor has lost a few teeth. The guts of the headlight motors contain one plastic, and one metal gear. Not hard to figure out what happens to the plastic gear when 20 year old grease dries up, and the linkage which it's pushing against also stiffens with age.

There's an excellent (IMO) article about Fiero headlight diagnostics & repair here.

Yep....Oreif is right as ususal..lol. pbBlaster is wonderful especially if you let it sit overnight.

On the headlamp issue....either something is binding and keeping it from coming all the way up or the motor was installed incorrectly.

If the assembly is coming all the way up but the HL will not adjust then you just need a new adjuster. Good luck.

hey thanks for the help on that corrosion, i'll hafta pick some of that up.
as for the head light. i took another look at it and it's also sitting a little bit lower when it's closed also...only about a 1/4 inch at the most, not a big deal but it throws off the headlight at nite and is kinda annoying, i'll check out that post and maybe dink around and figure something out, thanks again!

I use PB Blaster but never saw it actually remove rust. Great penetrating oil but not a rust remover per se. I never did understand the little "try it yourself" test on the label. The one with the styrofoam cups where you squirt a little PB in one and brand X in the other. PB melts the styrofoam. OK. So? I don't get the connection between rust and foam.

There is none...it's just a freakin joke to make it look all bad a$$...typical marketing BS.

As far as I'm concerned, that stuff is no better than most penetrating oils. The trick is to let them soak (overnight sometimes)...then most anything will work. I've used it and it didn't seem to work any better than WD-40.

D'oh. I assumed that you meant something significantly worse than 1/4" when I read your post the first time.

If it really is that small of an amount, you may be able to reposition the entire headlamp assembly by loosening the four nuts which hold it in place, lifting the whole assembly up, and re-tightening the nuts. There is some room in there to shift it about on the mounting studs. Not much, but it's more than none.
